The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers

Firstly, id like to say thanks to Miss Blondie herself, Frankie Winter, for nominating me. Its pretty rare for me to participate in a Q & A post so lets hope I can answer the majority of these questions without sounding like too much of an idiot (which is not hard for me to do).

Where is your all-time favourite destination?

This is always such a tricky question to answer as ive travelled to many destinations worthy of this prize. Some have been filled with sand and sun and others oozing in vibrant culture. I think im going to have to go with Berlin on this one. Not only does it offer so much history it has some the best techno clubs in the world, the weirdest & coolest bars I have ever laid eyes on, a food scene that lives up to the reputation of London and loads of super cool people wearing some serious trendy threads (without any effort required). There are very few cities I make a point of visiting twice and Berlin is one place I can say id happily visit 10 times over.

Which post are you most proud of?

My 30 day challenge I completed back in 2015 during the January detox period. This was a tough one but extremely rewarding. I had a goal of shedding some post christmas weight, while wanting to tone up again and focusing on general well being. It seemed pretty unrealistic to think I could transform my body in just a month however with perseverance and determination I was able to achieve something I really thought could not be possible in such a short amount of time. In fact, if I hadn’t of been gallivanting off to Australia, I probably would have carried on with the healthier lifestyle (or at least tried!).

Feeling that great is almost like a drug. I felt happier, clearer in my head and no longer dealt with that awful grogginess every single morning.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party, alive or dead?

Richard Branson. Such a bubbly character, with load of charisma and im sure, many inspiring stories to share while bringing life and energy to the party.

Lady Gaga. She might come across to some as cooky but deep down I think there is a lot more to her than meets the eye. Im sure she is another one that has many interesting stories to bring to the table.

Bridget Bardot and Gerard Butler. Do I really need a valid reason for this? Lets face it, they’re good looking and its important to have some eye candy at any soirée.

Karl Lagerfeld. Eccentric nature, over the top style, and extraordinary designer of the luxury French fashion brand, Chanel (which also happens to be a favourite of mine). Shall I go on?

Billy T James. His name may not be recognisable to most but he was very well known comedian and a brilliantly funny entertainer from New Zealand. I grew up watching many of his comedy sketches which he had me rolling around in fits on the floor for hours. I guarantee he would have the table roaring with laughter.

Do you have a favourite travel app?

Not really if im honest. When im in London I tend to use Citymapper and this has literally saved my life! I like to use Tripadvisor as a guide and recommendations for hotels but do many people really use this anymore? Oh I have also started using Tripcase which seems to be great for live flight updates and changes.

What’s your favourite and least favourite thing about blogging?

Interesting question. I started blogging just under two years ago and it has almost been a life changing journey in only a small amount of time…..don’t go me wrong though, it is definitely hard work and very time consuming. Especially if you are juggling that and a full time job like I am currently doing! (mental I know) Which is what brings me to my least favourite thing about it. How lonely it can be.  Ive spent numerous weekends at home cooped up on the couch while my friends are out partying it up. I find this is the only time I really have to sit down and be consumed in my laptop without any distractions.  Its either that, or its coming home rather late and staying up to some silly hours of the morning, scrambling to get that next post out.

My favourite thing would have to be the amazing people I have met along the way. It’s a great way to network and get to know the city inside and out. Some of the events I have attended, have been an unreal experience and never in a million years would I have thought that I would be involved in half of what I am doing now, if it wasn’t for the blog!

It has really opened my eyes to a whole other world and its just a lot of fun.

Is anything you like to do any time you visit somewhere new?

Nothing really specific but whenever I go away to new destination im always one to try out the local cuisine and have a dish that is very traditional. Its all part of travelling and really getting amongst the culture. Generally, 9 out of 10 times I absolutely love how it tastes and in Europe you really cant go wrong.

Where is somewhere you’ve been or something you did that you didn’t expect much of, but ended up loving?

When I visited a friend in Slovenia in a town called Ljubljana. I hadn’t heard a thing about this eastern European city but I couldn’t quite believe just how stunning it really was. I visited Lake Bled which is breathtaking and the famous Postojna Caves which was absolutely freezing but an experience I will never forget. Their wine and cuisine is unforgettable and certainly up there with their neighbouring countries. I was lucky enough to have a local chauffer me around to some of the best spots on offer in the city.

What’s your pet peeve?

Am I allowed to answer this more than once?!

Probably people who are constantly late. Although I admit since living in London I have become one of ‘those’ types of people so ive decided that I need to be a little more relaxed on this topic of late. The other would be people who interrupt when you are speaking. I know at times you need to shout out an exciting story or get something of your chest but its actually pretty rude to speak overtop of someone when they are talking. I hope to think that I am a good listener 🙂

What’s your most treasured possession?

If im completely honest, I don’t have any treasured possessions. I think this comes down to the fact that I have moved around a considerable amount of times and have had to give up so many items along the way. I do however, have a number of photographs that are displayed in my room along with a book shelf that has all sorts of bits and pieces which I have collected over the years. Also my music CD collection is pretty close to my heart. Call me old school, but theres nothing like whipping out some classic tunes from time to time!

Okay so my turn to nominate a couple of awesome bloggers to throw the same questions their way!

Nicole Bass –

A fellow Kiwi, who attended the same High school as me in Christchurch, also made the move to London and started up a fantastic travel blog.

Laura Marie Scott –

I met Laura at the Vashi diamond blogging event and we hit it off straight away. She is super sweet and always makes the effort to regularly keep in touch.

Ayushi Gupta –

The woman is a dream! Posses such an enthusiastic approach to life and in my opinion, one of the best writing styles I have across in the blogging world today.

Laura J Hyatt –

Im yet to meet this lovely blogger but always enjoy catching up on her latest foodie experiences and travel adventures.

  2. OMG YES YES YES. Berlin and Billy T absolutely.

I never really thought of blogging as lonely though, but I guess that’s because I’m such a loner…

  3. Thanks for the nomination Steph! Loved this post! I’m definitely with you on the downside of blogging, sometimes something’s just gotta give… On another note, can I be so cheeky as to request for an invite to your dream dinner party too?!
