Let them eat cake – the Marie Antoinette way

So much cake.

Welcome to Pont Street restaurant. Situated in the glamorous area of Belgravia/Sloane Square at the Belgraves Hotel, is a perfect spot for some plush Sunday afternoon tea.

I invited my friend and DJ Melissa Grant to join me for some fanciness and what a better way to start then with french bubbles in hand with some added gorgeous raspberry pearl drops courtesy of Ruinart champagne. Just splendid.

Showcasing their new Marie Antoinette inspired afternoon tea and created by Executive head chef, Sophie Michell is wonderfully decadent and is certainly up there with the best of them.  Sophie is the youngest chef in Britain, winner of the Best Mediterranean Cookbook 2015 and also heads up the Gorgeous Kitchen at Heathrow airport.

With a freshly brewed pot of mint tea leaves to start with in an elegant teapot, it wasn’t long until the layers of pretty colours were bought to the table followed by the traditional favourite warm baked scones and finger licking good sandwiches. I always find when im at an afternoon tea that I find it quite overwhelming and never know what to eat first. Although presentation is everything, the problem with this is that it always looks far too beautiful to eat anyway. Sigh

After realising we had been there for just short of 4 hours it was pretty obvious that we had thoroughly enjoyed our ‘Marie Antoninette’ experience in this humble, relaxed modern setting and im confident to say that she would have as well.

While almost bursting at the seams by the end of it, I can assure you that you that there is more than enough to go around and if you aren’t a little piglet like me then the help of a trustee doggie bag will be there for anything left over.
